Owner Reviews, Ratings, Comments and Criticism While written quite nicely, with the content of this book, I can't say that it is at all worth the price, nor time.
It can't be argued that this book covers many of the essential topics, the problem is the level of coverage quite superficial, the layout of topics less than ideal. The diagrams and illustrations, while pertinent, do not exactly compliment the text. What is funny is that some illustrations take up an entire page, and considering the full page coverage of an illustration, one would expect that it will be showing something important; something worth examining. This simply is not the case. It's almost as if the illustrations were placed simply to add page count to the book. As if sentences in the book were chosen at random, and later an illustration was found to match it.
Going back to the depth of coverage. Quite frankly, I find this textbook almost too abbreviated to be of use. Verbosity and grandiose language overpowers what is in fact most important, the topic of clinical neurology. It is neither comprehensive enough, nor condensed and concentrated enough to be of value. The text purveys a sense that it tries to be a jack of all trades, but ultimately, is master of none, as some of the less easily remembered details one would really reference a book to find are not present, leaving the stuff you can find, practically speaking, in textbooks one may already have. If you already have a textbook on internal medicine, like Harrison's or Cecils, etc., you are certainly better off sticking to the neurology sections of those books as you will not gain anything extra from Clinical Neurology in comparison.
A much better choice, if one had to decide between this textbook and another, would in my opinion be the Thieme Flexibook "Color Atlas of Neurology" by Reinhard Rohkamm. Don't let the Atlas part fool you. It is absolutely as much a "textbook" as it is an atlas. It is physically smaller in size, has better illustrations and diagrams by far, is jam packed with not only those less remembered details you need a textbook to reference, but brilliantly summarized synopses of the same neurological syndromes, symptoms, and clinical exams that you can find in Clinical Neurology. The fact that it is printed on higher quality paper, and bound in a more durable fashion is a definite bonus.
The Thieme Flexibook in fact adds exceptional neuroanatomy diagrams and text to boot. The text of the Thieme Flexibook "Color Atlas of Neurology" seems more pleasurable to read. Pleasurable because everything you read is more easily remembered from the Thieme book than from Clinical Neurology. Perhaps this is secondary to the superior organization and illustrations found in the Thieme Flexibook "Color Atlas of Neurology".
Granted, the Thieme Flexibook "Color Atlas of Neurology", is a little older as far as publication date is concerned; regardless it is definitely a superior book.
I do like the Lange series of books, but in this case, I would not recommend Clinical Neurology to anybody because there are other books far, far better. I bought this book, read it twice already, and really regret investing in it.
