Owner Reviews, Ratings, Comments and Criticism
Our 8 month old was diagnosed with albinism at 10 weeks and I wish I had bought this book right at the beginning. It is fantastic. It's written in a really reader-friendly style, and answers all the questions you wanted to ask the doctor but forgot because your mind went blank when you were in the room! We initially read so much literature on the subject which told us in medical terms about albinism, but where was the practical advice when we needed it? In this book!! It deals with some really sensitive issues such as how you, the parent may feel about the diagnosis; albinism in children of colour; dealing with starting school and the social aspects of the condition. These aspects of the book are what sets it apart from any other text I have read on the subject. There is also a very useful section about the education system and a very detailed, but relatively easy to understand explanation about genetics of the different types of albinism. Would definitely recommend to any family affected by the condition :0)
