Owner Reviews, Ratings, Comments and Criticism
What would you do if you found yourself in a cold, icy and indifferent marriage? What would you do if you met your soul mate, while married to a man whose relationship is barely even a friendship anymore? What would you do? Megan van Eyck tells her story and answers those questions openly, honestly and with true heartfelt emotion and love, within her story, Memoirs of a Widowed Mistress. Ms. van Eyck's story will draw you in from the very beginning, drawing emotions from the reader and giving them a glimpse into a life not necessary asked for, but one that was almost Heaven sent. I know, some may read this and think "Adultery is a sin, how could it possibly be Heaven sent?!" The only way that I can respond is to say: read the book for yourself. Memoirs of a Widowed Mistress is not a story of self-fulfillment and selfishness, it is not one to set out to inflict pain or remorse, but one of brutal honesty, emotion, love and commitment. When Megan met Carlos, it was a complete happenstance, one that was not purposeful, yet seemingly destined. Her marriage was anything but perfect, she had tried countless times to talk her husband into seeking marriage counseling, trying her utmost best to save any aspect that she could manage, of what was left of their legal bond. When chance brought Megan and Carlos together, an instant connection was burned within each of them. Fate brought them together, until devastation tore them apart. Memoirs of a Widowed Mistress is not a guide stating that cheating is or is not okay and completely ethical and correct. However, it is a deeply provocative, richly emotional and therapeutically cleansing story of one woman's period of life, her journey and her bluntly honest experience. I wholeheartedly commend Megan van Eyck for her honesty and the fact that she does not "sugar coat" her experience, making a plea that everyone should think that what she experienced was morally correct. Love, as in any other aspect of life, is not black and white, it is not right or wrong, it is raw emotion. Memoirs of a Widowed Mistress is a book of unrelenting raw emotion. While reading, I found myself falling within Ms. van Eyck's words, her story and her life. This is an incredibly well written book and very "human" in its style. I do have to mention that readers who are easily offended, should look elsewhere. This is not only because of the subject matter, but also the fact that the author is very open in her affairs - very descriptive and uses language that may make some readers cringe. If giving a rating, I would say "R", if that is helpful at all, for sexual situations and language. On a personal level, I enjoyed Megan's story, her honesty and emotions shine through as a way to tell her story and help others who may find themselves in a similar situation. I found myself truly and emotionally connected with her, her struggles, her joys and her pain. I wish Megan van Eyck nothing but happiness and life's greatest blessings in her future. Before closing my review, I want to mention that Amyloidosis, the horror which changed Megan and Carlos' lives forever, is a very rare blood disorder. Readers can find out more information about it and what they can do to help at the Amyloidosis Foundation.
