This is my favorite book for examination of the nervous system. It's concise and well written. It practically takes you by the hand and guides you down the difficult path of examination of the complex and often confusing nervous system. R.T. Ross is a great teacher, not just apparently a great doctor.
The book is primarily focused on just the examination process. However, just enough attention is given to mention the most common findings and conditions, that it also serves as a great lead into researching these conditions using other references. Paired with other classic resources, like Frank Netter's Atlas of Human Anatomy, I have found it to be a great tool for refreshing and reevaluating my neurological exams as well as learning new techniques and insights. For instance, learning how to perform a majority of exams primarily in the supine position versus seated or standing positions. Also learning new reflex exams that I hadn't heard of before or at least hadn't heard explained as well. R.T. Ross does such a great job of keeping the material simple yet relevantly detailed enough that I think any practitioner examining the nervous system could benefit from this book and the guidance he shares within it. I wish I had this book and had used it 10 years ago when I was in school learning this material for the first time.
If you're looking for a little help in the process of EXAMining the nervous system, I think you'll find this book very useful and well worth the investment. I certainly have.
