Sherrie Glasser, M.S., P.T., owner and director, Metropolitan Physical & Aquatic Therapy"Dr. Blau writes a comprehensive review of the common arthritides. While geared for the patient, there is much practical information for the non-rheumatologist practicing physician, specifically regarding complimentary treatments. The book is interesting, easy to read, and practical, being sprinkled with patient vignettes and useful tips for the afflicted. A screening Arthritis Doctor's Questionnaire as well as comprehensive exercises and mouth-watering diets make
Too Young to Feel Old particularly appealing." --

Dubin, M.D., F.A.C.P., associate professor of medicine, Stony Brook University, and past chairman, Department of Medicine, Community Hospital, Glen Clove, New York"Dr. Blau, a board certified rheumatologist, has written an exciting and illuminating book that integrates his scientific understanding and expertise of rheumatology with lessons he has learned from his patients. Written in an easy to read manner,
Too Young to Feel Old provides information about the basis of arthritis along with medical, physical, and common treatments that have proven to be effective. This book will prove to be a useful reference to the patients and families affected by arthritis conditions." --
Ronald L. Too Young to Feel Old is an optimistic book that empowers the patient by giving her/him tips about exercise, healthy eating--with mouthwatering recipes--and the rationale of treatment. The exercise descriptions are accompanied by excellent photographs, and the section on causes and mechanisms of OA and RA is interesting and very comprehensible." --
Rodanthi C. Kitridou, M.D., F.A.C.P., M.A.C.R., Professor Emerita of Medicine (Rheumatology), University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine"[Blau] puts forward no magic remedies or silver bullets; instead, he lays out a four-week program designed to alleviate some of the pain associated with arthritisHe offers as alternatives links to reliable site information (e.g., the Arthritis Fdn.) and a series of gentle, purpose-specific exercises (e.g., for wrist strengthening) graded for level of difficulty and including instructional photos. He pairs these exercises with common effective medications, dietary recommendations (e.g., more calcium, fewer refined carbs), and recipes. Blau claims that following both the diet and exercise regimes he espouses will help improve flexibility and reduce weight, therefore quieting symptoms. And, indeed, his advice seems sensible; the menu plans and exercises, beneficial. Purchase this enjoyable book." --

Owner Reviews, Ratings, Comments and Criticism
Watching family and friends suffer from arthritis can be heart-breaking, and simply wondering how to help won't improve a situation. Not only does TOO YOUNG TO FEEL OLD prove one doctor can make a difference but also that the person who purchases this book can do so too. While many books written by doctors are technical and difficult to understand, to Dr. Blau's credit he has written a readily understood primer that combines traditional and alternative medicine. Fact is, I have given copies of other books as gifts, yet none has generated such an incredibly positive response from recipients. Two friends reported that they welcomed the suggested menus made up of foods that fight arthritis, including the recipe for Garlic Shrimp in White Wine. Another friend welcomed the special tips for making life easier. A third friend took the questionnaire designed to determine the extent of his arthritis. In a testament to the author, all have recommended TOO YOUNG TO FEEL OLD TO FRIENDS.
