Review
"The 11 chapters of the book cover the broad sub-specialties, and have been written by consultatn ophthalmologists and registrars from across the UK. The layout of the book is very clear. Each condition is given a two-page spread, begining with general explanations of the pathophysiology and clinical evaluation, followed by differential diagnoses, treatment options and finally color photographs. Each chapter ends with ideas for case-based discussions. The typeface and layout are very nicely done, making it an easy book to read through, but also easy to scan through quickly to find the information you are looking for, thanks to lots of sub-headings and bullet-point lists. The illustrations too are very clear and amongst the best I have seen in a textbook of this size and price."--James Cameron as reviewed in Eye News
Owner Reviews, Ratings, Comments and Criticism I am a graduating medical student interested in ophthalmology. I think this book is excellent and very useful. It is well-organized and amply illustrated with diagrams and photographs. It contains practical knowledge on the steps of common surgeries and procedures, which makes them easier to follow when observing in the OR. It gives practical exam techniques (I learned the basics of gonioscopy from this book). Nearly every ocular disease that I encountered and had a question about on my rotations has had some coverage in this book. It references major studies for further reading. It is elegantly written, very digestible and memorable, and written in a clinically useful way.
The only cons are that it is not cheap, and it is too large and heavy to fit into a white coat pocket, where it would be a really useful reference in clinic. And, it is British so all the visual acuities are in meters (a little annoying for the American reader).
Overall, I highly, highly recommend.
