About the Author
JOSÉ SARAMAGO (1922–2010) was the author of many novels, among them Blindness, All the Names, Baltasar and Blimunda, and The Year of the Death of Ricardo Reis. In 1998 he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature.
Owner Reviews, Ratings, Comments and Criticism I like "Blindness" more than any other novel I have read in recent years. It is abstract, parabolic and at the same time emotional. A Nobel prize winner, Saramago died recently. He was Portugese but lived for man years in Spain, escaping the dictatorship of his country. His family was poor; he was a journalist who started writing fiction relatively late in his life and a Communist of the most humane sort. His writing is compelling, unforgettable, moving and consequential.
