Grade 1–3—Chickenpox discusses the causes, symptoms, duration, sister disease shingles, and prevention through vaccination. Color photographs show children covered in bumps and blisters, and sidebars have captions such as "Can you catch chickenpox from a chicken?" The book will satisfy researchers as well as those with a personal interest in the virus. The second title explores what it is like to have food allergies, including symptoms and reactions. The chapters "It Was Just a Bite" and "Is It a Food Allergy?" will be of high interest. Theories about why some people get food allergies are discussed, as is allergy testing and living safely. Color photographs appear throughout. One shows the results of a skin prick test and another, a break out of hives. An explanation about the role of the immune system and the production of antibodies is accompanied by an illustration demonstrating mast cells releasing histamine.
